Aneros Dependency?

I feel very comfortable with my SGX resting against my prostate. I enjoy being fairly "do nothing".  On a sleepless night after some nice SGX sensations I can drift off to sleep. It is like a comforter - like sucking ones thumb as a child!  I sense a possible dependency. Of course it could be I am making up for years of lost time as I am 70+ and new to all this (8 months into it). The use of an Aneros has a very beneficial outcome in my daily life. I am more tolerant, more attentive to my wife, more understanding to other people, more creative and generally happier. It has helped with my BHP and I urinate easily now. I am cautious I have chosen to use the Tempo and the SGX and occasionally the MGX.  The larger ones I don't use.  In trawling the forum I can't see any problems about doing this. Currently I insert an Aneros when I go to bed and take it out when I wake after a couple of hours, then in the early morning I insert it again if I am awake ( as I usually am) to sleep again. I understand we are all so different but some comments would be appreciated

    Hello, isvara.

Unless you start having negative effects from Aneros use, I don't see why dependency would be an issue. I sleep with one or another Aneros device every night; no problems.

Winker From the Aneros WIKI ",,,It just might lend a whole new meaning to the word "pacifier"." I'm 64 and I agree with you, Aneros use "...has a very beneficial outcome in my daily life." as well. The fact you are engaging in an activity which is as comforting as a child's pacifier, isn't really rising to the level of "dependency". I think the word "dependency" would only apply in the case of "behavioral addiction", while Aneros use may allow one to travel in that direction, I think there are pro-active alternatives.

I think we have to ask ourselves two simple questions.

Is this behavior detrimental to my psychological health ?

From your post above I would say that any behavior which encourages you to be "...more tolerant, more attentive to...wife, more understanding to other people, more creative and generally happier." is pretty darn good for your psychological health.

Is this behavior detrimental to my physical health ?

You said "It has helped with my BHP and I urinate easily now." This sounds pretty darn good for your physical health as well.

I think you might be better off thinking about Aneros use as a health habit from which you derive much pleasure, just as you bathe and brush your teeth regularly. Those are activities which we "depend upon" to feel good about ourselves in support of meaningful lives.

If you were truly dependent in the addictive sense, very likely you you would be withdrawing from your normal social interactions and spending excessive time engaged in Anerosessions to the detriment of your real life obligations. It sounds like that is NOT the case for you.

Hey if it helps you sleep, why not?  Better than sleeping pills.  Personally it doesn't seem to matter if it's at night, or durring the day, after about 15 - 20 minutes of the aneros is I find myself drifting off.  I really don't know why it is.  I'm only in my 30's

    A synergism:

I began my practice of meditation to compliment my Aneros sessions.  Now, entering my fourth year I find that the Aneros compliments my meditative practices.

I am more confident and calm, when and where it counts.  And, as isvara has noted, the Aneros lifestyle washes onto my interpersonal relationships, my improved sleep patterns and as another member of the BPH club onto my prostate health

...opprotunity is rarely recursive.  always reach for the brass ring....   rook

Thank you. The forum is a vital support for me on this new journey. I would find it difficult to do it alone.
I am particularly grateful for the support, wisdom and encouragement.
I can step forward boldly with confidence.
  • Personally, I only use the aneros when I am fully prepared, cleaned out, awake, and have a respectable degree of privacy.  So I typically associate the aneros with a pleasure session just as I would set aside a block of time for traditional masturbation.  On the average week for the summer I have been getting 3-5 sessions a week, 45min-1.5hrs each, sometimes in the same day.  I suppose there is nothing wrong with using as you do, and as with many things it is really a matter of personal preference.  In the past I have left the tempo or the helix in on a couple of occasions with nothing special to report and much prefer to be consciously aware of my physical experiences with it in.  I fear if I did things like repeatedly wearing it out in the community or during my sleep, I will be linking weird associations (trying to subdue twitches, shakes, giggles, moans - being a cue for less experienced pleasure) (in the case of sleeping, not consciously experiencing pleasure with aneros in) that could hinder my progress, making it less of a "unique" exerience.  For me, the pleasure I am now able to conjure up at will is enough until I find the "right" time to do it traditionally.
