A warning about lubes
  • Hey guys, I had something happen back in December/January and thought it'd be good to report it. I had been using Maximus lube regularly by suggestion of people here. I had actually been using it for about a year. I would sometimes get a taste in my mouth the next morning from it, but I wasn't really worried enough to stop using it. December was different, I was having lots of sessions for a few weeks so I was putting quite a bit of that stuff into my body. 5ml per night on average. I remember feeling weird/sick, but it never occurred to me that it might be the lube. Finally, I woke up one morning with extreme vertigo. I had had a long session the night before -- even refueling with more lube. So, I finally put it together. The lube did this to me.

I've never EVER had vertigo as intense as it was that day. Really I can only remember one other time in my life I've experienced random dizziness at all. The dizziness slowly subsided that day, but it took a couple of weeks before I felt completely normal again. I immediately stopped any aneros use of course, at least for a few weeks. Then when I resumed I used another lube (Probe Rich & thick -- I don't recommend it as it dries out too fast but the stuff is edible so I felt safe and it's all I had).

Sometime a bit later I did some reading and decided I wanted to try coconut oil. I have since switched and can report that the stuff has worked pretty well. I have went to amazing places while using it -- so it's good enough for me. I don't really like how thin it is after melting, and I don't know if it's as good as the maximus was... but it works, and I feel totally safe with it.

Anyway, I recently tried the maximus again just once... and the thing is, I really can taste the stuff in my mouth the next day. I think I was slowly poisoning myself with it. If the taste gets in your mouth that means it must be in your blood. And if it's in your blood, who knows what effects that will have on your liver, kidneys, and other organs. It really scares me to think about that.

So yeah, let this post be a warning to stay safe and be careful what you use. I hope I've helped someone with this info. Also, I'm not advocating that coconut oil is the only safe lube -- if anyone has other ideas I'm all ears.

Hello binaryfellow. I think that you are somehow allergic to Maximus. I think it is great and have settled for it now and use nothing else. It is possible that you use too much and overload yourself. Always, when I finish, I push out the residual lube and wipe off. I hope you find something else soon. Perhaps you could try Maximun again in smaller doses and less frequiently. Good luck. Tomasheen.

I strongly agree on this. Rather than taste the lube though I get it as a fragrance/smell. Onset is usually four to six hours after a session (after I've showered down and dumped my clothes, towel & wash cloths into the hamper). I'm confident the fragrance is not being inhaled from any residue on my hands or bod -- makes me very sure that, in my own case, the lube residuemakes its way into the general blood circulation and is then slowly eliminated by the liver. (-- Elsevier -- indicates individual variability in the venous architecture in the lower bowel/rectum so YMMV.)

Although I carry and use SlipperyStuff for travel (easy to carry and I get about 3 hrs out of 2ml injected), my preference is for a vegetable lube (Shea+Coconut) -- good for >4 hrs. Belief is that Shea & Coconut are eliminated through the liver via bile (hopefully with as few ugly by-products as possible. My LDL is always very low and my HDL is usually 75 or 76 (over the top) so I'm not concerned about the saturated fat side of the coin.

I kinda suspect something similar. I've a diehard Probe Thick & Rich guy. It seems to do the job for me, but I'm always reapplying during sessions. Recently I had several sessions in one week and one morning woke up with an intense stomach ache. Turned out to be diarrhea. It could be a case of food poisoning - who knows. But my asshole was sore for a few days (hemorrhoid flare up). I think I've gotten more 'roids since starting the aneros- is this possible?

I know of Rumel's Natural Jelly recipe, which seems to get rave reviews, but is hard to procure! Rumel- how about some links to the products you need so I can order the right stuff? Sorry but I'm lazy! And I went to look for the stuff a few times and found out that there are different types of shea butter and beeswax. Links to the stuff you used would be greatly beneficial! Thanks in advance!

I'm going a little OT here, sorry... But to sum it up, YES, I also have concerns about the chemicals that we are introducing into our bloodstreams.

    pnoman,

I have been using the Natural Jelly recipe for well over a year now with no ill effects. Since this is not a product you can purchase on the open market, you need to make it yourself, which is really quite easy. There are only three ingredients needed. ONE -
Almond Oil (preferably organically produced) with no preservatives, I get mine from the local health food store. TWO - Food or cosmetic grade bees wax (this is filtered and pasteurized), I also purchased this at my local health food store, since it was bought out of a bulk bin I don't have a producers name to give you a link to it. It doesn't require very much in proportion to the Almond Oil. THREE - Vitamin E oil, just buy some Vitamin E oil in gelcaps, cut them open and squeeze the contents into the mix. Vitamin E caplets are available anywhere other Vitamins are sold.

    Hello Binaryfellow, :)

Thank you for the heads up regarding this. Those of us that use natural lubes have always known/suspected that some portion of the lube gets absorbed in the rectum into the blood stream. Although yours is the first post I've read that some one found themselves slowly poisoned enough to notice it. I've been using unrefined 100% shea butter for over a year now and I have not experienced any issues with it that I am aware of. Keep in mind that if you are using refined coconut oil, then there is still chemical residues in it if it is extracted chemically rather than expeller pressed, and whatever chemicals they use to make it pure white and remove the fragrance. You can try unrefined(virgin) coconut oil, but the consistency is much softer, melts very quickly, and smells very strongly of coconut. So you'd likely have to use a syringe of warmed up oil to get any in you. Assuming you don't mind the smell.

I find that unrefined 100% shea butter works just fine for me. And there is generally no cooking or prep involved. Just use it out of the package/jar. And I never have to re-apply lube during a session. Just sit on the toilet after the session and poop out the lube. Keep in mind that you do have to be aware of ambient temperatures with shea butter, as it starts to melt around 76F if I recall correctly. So during the summer months, or if you live in a warm/hot climate, you may have to keep it in the refrigerator to keep it hard enough to easily insert solid chunks into your rectum. This may also apply to coconut oil. Although I don't know at what temperatures refined and unrefined melt at.

Here's the main thread on unrefined 100% shea butter:

  • Just wanted to say, thanks for all the support and suggestions guys. About being allergic to it -- I have no drug, food, or chemical allergies that I am aware of so it would be a first (highly allergic to pollen though). Personally, I don't think that is likely enough to be the case.

Shea butter does sound like another nice alternative. Can I ask... is it any thicker than coconut oil after melting? My only problem with coconut oil is it isn't quite as thick as I'd like. I actually don't insert it solid. I have a small bottle of it that I put in a cup of hot water for about 5 minutes to melt it, then I use my syringe. The cheap medicine feeder syringe I use actually doesn't say it's safe for oils, but I've been using it for several months now without it starting to fail. 5ml is about what I use typically. It stays in me for a long time because I think I get rid of nearly half of it in the toilet as long as 2 hours later.

Just thinking, I'd also have to find a place to buy shea butter...

The thing love_is mentioned about refined coconut oil being contaminated with chemicals. The refined stuff I got was sold in a grocery store to be edible. It has a strong yellow hue to it when it's solid, but doesn't have much fragrance. Anyway, the biggest thing that indicates it safe to me is that it's meant to be edible. I could be wrong though, I don't know. I may try unrefined, but darwin reported in another thread that it smells pretty strong. Exuding a strong coconut scent isn't something I want.

When my living conditions change, I'd love to try rumels recipe. It's kinda hard to do something like that when you're hiding your aneros use from nosy family members.

    Hello Binaryfellow, :)

It's definitely thicker and has a higher melting point than unrefined coconut oil. But having never used refined coconut oil I have no idea. When exploring my anus with my finger or removing my Aneros, the melted Now Foods unrefined 100% shea butter I use is thick and creamy in texture. So much so that it does not run down the crack of my ass when laying down. And as far as I can tell, what I put into me gets pooped out afterwards sitting on the toilet.

Just thinking, I'd also have to find a place to buy shea butter...

    That's easy! :D
Locally at your health food store or co-op in the cosmetics section under hand/body lotion. Make sure to look at the ingredients, as some brands add other things like fragrances and other oils. Or you can buy it online at a bazillion different places. Just type in shea butter into a search engine.

This really depends on your own beliefs. In my own opinion, there a lot of foods that are sold to us as edible that are poison to our bodies. In my own practive of healthy eating, I avoid almost all of those. If you can't safely ingest the nasty chemicals they use to extract oil, preserve, deodorize, and keep bugs from eating the harvest. Then I don't see how it can be healthy to humans to ingest it in small amounts where it builds up in the body over time. You discovered this yourself with the Maximus lube.

I may try unrefined, but darwin reported in another thread that it smells pretty strong. Exuding a strong coconut scent isn't something I want.

Likewise, I don't recommend unrefined coconut oil for anal lube due to it's unbareably strong smell, but also because of it's low melting point and thin consistency. The smell of unrefined 100% shea butter can vary depending on how filtered and what grade it is. The brand I use has a very light smell that is easily tolerable for me . And I have a very sensitive sense of smell.

When my living conditions change, I'd love to try rumels recipe. It's kinda hard to do something like that when you're hiding your aneros use from nosy family members.

Understandable. With the exception of possibly having to refrigerate shea butter in warmer weather. Even then, you can still use it when it is soft. It's just messier to apply and you waste a bit more. So you won't have to leave it in common locations in the house/apartment if you don't want to.

I can sympathise with that :( I'm allergic to many things (soaps, washing powders, drugs, etc) and sometimes have to try dozens of brands before I find one that I'm OK with. Try changing your lube (or rotate three or four to allow you time to avoid the effects of each) and I think the problem will go away. (BTW Maximus is one thing that I haven't had any trouble with!)

How about Slippery Stuff, which has been tested for anal safety & prolonged exposure in the rectum, and the study's results are found here:

I've found it to be a really good lube, the Thick is super thick.

I think I may have confirmed binary fellow's experience related in Post #1 of this thread.

Last week I got started into e-stim and was looking for a lube with more reliable conductivity than my usual Shea Butter mixture. So, Thursday (the 26th of May) tried Maximus water based lube with an unipolar Tempo. Generally the session went well save for a few "excursions" beyond my targeted sub-threshold level.

Friday morning I had a feeling of neurological detachment, slow co-ordination and reduced kinesthetic sensitivity. Not the severe Vertigo that binary fellow reported but nevertheless, "disturbing." Saturday I didn't feel a whole lot better but opted to pack a Peridise to my usual TaiChi drill session. The bottle of Maximus was handy so I used it. Tai Chi didn't go well. I blew several form transitions and was told finally to leave the floor and take a break. During the bike ride back home I felt 'uncertain.'

Sunday I lubed up my Vice for some bph thereapy and again reached for the Maximus bottle since it was 'handy' The therapy session went well and Maximus played very well with the silicone Vice !! Great vibe sensations and one of the better Super-Ts I've tossed while packing a large tool like Vice or Progasm.

Monday was another day of mild 'disorientation' and I began to fear that e-stim had done permenent damage to my senses of orientation and balance. Wednesday I felt better and last night I opted for my nominal Anerosgasm session with Eupho and, again Maximus since it was 'handy.' This morning my kinesthetic sense is not good. Suspicion is that it wasn't the e-stim but the Maximus lube -- perhaps a combination of the two.
