Home Made Lube from Organic Flax Seeds and Water
  • Hi all,
I'm new to the forum, and pretty new to the Aneros toys. But I wanted to give folks who are interested a recipe I use for homemade lube that works amazingly well for me. For starters I'll say that I am generally not much of a lube person. I've always used saliva when needed, or castor oil for anal stim, and I tend to masturbate without lube. One fall I was at a radical herbalism conference where some friends shared their homemade lubricant recipe with me, made with flax seeds and water and nothing else. I know that B recommends KY jelly or Maximus, and I haven't used either so I can't reliably compare them to the flax lube. For health reasons though, I can't put anything chemically or industrially manufactured inside of me, and for political reasons I prefer to "do it myself" (no pun intended) as much as possible . I already eat a lot of flax, they grow locally (I could even grow them myself if I wanted) and they're cheap so its perfect for me!

the recipe I first learned was as follows:
    1 Tbs organic flax seeds
    1 cup filtered/distilled water
bring water to boil, add flax seeds and simmer for 5 minutes or so. Then strain the liquid from the seeds (important to do this while its still hot since it gels up a little upon cooling), let it cool down a bit, and then enjoy it.

For an anal lube I modified it to make it thicker by using a 1:2 ratio of flax to water. So, I used half a cup of flax to a cup of water, simmered for 5 minutes, strained, let cool, and enjoyed.

The resulting liquid feels luscious and behaves EXACTLY like a woman's own vaginal lubrication when she is in the ovulation phase of her cycle. It stays slippery for a considerable time, and when you rub it between thumb and forefinger and then pull your fingers apart, the lube is stringy (again like ovulation phase vaginal secretions).

Last night I used this lube for the first time with my MGX. Before that I was using the castor oil, or sometimes a natural vitamin E oil both of which worked alright during my explorations. I also used a natural water based lube (Sliquid) a few times but I found that it was just a bit irritating to my anus so I've stopped using it. I squirted a tablespoon or so of the flax lube into my anus and then coated my MGX with it. Sliding it in me was the easiest and smoothest it has been yet - much easier than with any of the oils or the Sliquid lube. I didn't go for hours and hours on account of the time, but after an hour and a half when I pulled it out, the lube was still just as slippery as when I put it in. And from past experience I know that if the lube does ever start getting a little dry, just add a dab of water or some spit and it is right back to its original slick slippery goodness.

One final thing to say is that this lube is totally edible (its actually a good healthy dose of soluble fiber which is great for your colon), which is awesome. However it does mean that its shelf life is limited to one week or so in the fridge, and up to three days out of the fridge. If you put it in the fridge between sessions then it will get cold, obviously, so you might like to warm it up by placing the bottle in warm water for a while before using it. Or, since it's not complicated at all, and doesn't take long to make, you could make a small fresh batch each time and enjoy the luxury of warm lube (Plus making a fresh batch actually takes just as long as warming up your leftovers from last session).

Please enjoy and share the recipe!

    Hello little brother, :)

Thank you so much for sharing this natural lube recipe with us!!! There are a number of us here like myself that are mindful of what we put in our rectums, and prefer the natural route. I've been using unrefined 100% shea butter for over a year now and have been very happy with it. But it tends to be pricey, and cannot be made by yourself, unless you happen to live in the part of Africa where the shea nut grows.

So how would you describe the viscosity of the doubled ratio recipe for anal lube at room temperature, and also stored in the refrigerator?

I'm going to have to try this, as I usually use flax seeds in foods now and then, and the recipe sounds super simple to make. The only downside is the short shelf life, which implies like you said to make it in small quantities. Can I assume when it goes bad you can tell from the odor changing to something foul smelling?
    Thanks again!

  • Hi Love Is,
Yes! I noticed a post of yours where you mentioned Shea Butter. I was intrigued- though I don't where I would find it in rural Maine. And I am really excited to know there are like minded folks on this forum

The viscosity of this mixture is, I hate to sound crude, like a very thick clear loogie. Its made quite a bit thicker by being in the fridge to the point that you can sort of grab whole goops of it, though it still maintains its stringy "loogie" like quality and lubricates very nicely. When its warm it is a little runnier, a little bit more watery in consistency and works just as well (and feels nicer to me). The lube also sticks quite well to the plastic material that the aneros is made from.

In terms of it going bad, the indicators are subtle, nothing putrid by any means. I kept a jar in the fridge once for a few weeks (maybe even a month) before finally cleaning the fridge and getting rid of it. Though I didn't use it any more after a week, when I threw it out it didn't look particularly gross or smell too bad. It became a little more cloudy if I recollect and had a bit of an off odor that didn't really strike me at the time, nor do I remember it well enough to describe. It was slight. Other than that, I can't really say what indicators to use to tell if you shouldn't be using it any more. Given that, I've always just played it safe and gone with the recommended 2-3 days unrefrigerated, and a week or so if kept cold (like dinner leftovers) :)

I really look forward to hearing about your experience making it and using it.

    Hello again little brother, :)

Thank you so much for the additional details. As soon as I can get a hold of some flax seeds again, I will definitely try this. If you are for some reason curious to try 100% unrefined shea butter. You can either buy it over the Internet. Just type in "shea butter" into a search engine, and all sorts of results come up. Or go to your local health food store or co-op and look in the cosmetics section under hand/body moisturizer. Check the ingredients though, some manufacturers like to add scents and other stuff to it. Here's a couple of relevent lube threads that might interest you.

This first link talks about a number of different lubes. But further down rumel discusses his home made jelly recipe, and I go into my delving into making my own lubes that eventually has me discovering shea butter.

This second link is the main shea butter thread.

Hope this is helpful. Also try doing some searches here in the forum, as there is a wealth of information about lubes of all types.

    Hello little brother, :)

So I went out and bought some organic golden flax seeds today, and just finished cooking up a batch of flax lube just now. I did the 1:2 ratio of flax seed to water, but cut your recipe in half using 1/4 cup of flax seeds, and 1/2 cup of water. I let the water boil, added the flax seeds and then let it simmer for five minutes. What I found was that the water gets soaked up very quickly so it looked close to getting dry. So I had to keep adding water during the cooking process, and also especially during the straining process. It seems the longer the flax seeds sit in the water, the thicker the whole concoction gets. If it got too thick it would not go through the strainer. I tried both a course and fine strainer. The course let some flax seeds through, so that was a no go. Using the fine strainer was a slow and tedious process of tapping the strainer on the rim of the jar and stirring the mixture. It's gelatinous lube so it goes through the strainer very slow. It's not as easy a process as I thought it would be. But certainly not impossible. Perhaps little brother you could go into more detail with your cooking and straining process to make it easier for us.

The end result is very interesting. It's like a gooey liquid with strands of what look like mucus in it like little brother mentioned. The consistency between my fingers reminds me very much of pre-cum, but stays slippery much longer. I'm planning an Aneros session with this stuff tonight, and will report back with the results. I'm hoping this will work well. Because I've been wondering what I might use for lube during a pegging session. As shea butter oil will stain the harness material which I do not want. Here goes... :D

I'm intrigued with this, particularly the consistency that was mentioned....vaginal lubrication during ovulation......nice! Thanks to Little Brother for posting on it and to Love_is for giving it a shot. I think I'm going to have to try this myself. While the "Natural Jelly" recipe is very cool as well, I like that this is water soluble.

  • Hi Again Love Is,
Sorry that you found it complicated, though, my guess is that it will get easier after you make a couple batches. You're right, that the final quantity of usable liquid is less than what you start out with. And to be honest I am not one to measure exactly so mine are more eyeballed estimates (it sounds like my proportions were off- my apologies). As the flax seeds cook and soak they release their mucilage in a coating around them. The longer they soak the more mucilage is released from them into the water, and flax has a very high percentage of mucilage in them. I have never been able to separate ALL the mucilage from the seeds, but make due with the amount that the mixture yields. If it ends up being too little then I add a little more water to the original batch of flax and put it back on the stove for a couple minutes to bring it back up to heat. This gets a little more of the mucilage that there is, and lets me strain more of it off. Next time I make a batch I'll be sure and take more exact measurements so I can post them here (or if you find a ratio that works then please do post it).

For straining the seeds out, I use one of my larger metal screen kitchen sieves (1/16th inch). I haven't ever had the problem of seeds slipping through, but I have gotten a few seeds in the lube before. I don't usually worry about them since they too are slippery and if one gets inside me, it'll come out later when I go to the bathroom. However, when you mentioned that I thought that a few layers of unbleached cheesecloth could be used to strain the mixture more effectively since depending on the number of layers you use, you can vary the size of what's allowed through. Plus you could wring it out a little to extract more of the lubricant. The only thing is that to do that you'll want to wait till it cools down enough to handle it. That could take a bit of time.

I hope it does the trick with your harness. And thanks for the links to other lube ideas. I'll check them out.

    Hello again, :)

So I had my first Aneros session with this flax seed lube last night. And I must say I like it very much, but with some reservations. It doesn't provide a slippery gliding sensation in the anus like shea butter which is an oil, so it may not be sufficient for pegging. While the Helix went in with little issue, my Progasm I had to be more careful during the insertion. But... on the other hand. I really loved the sensation of the lube, particularly fingering some into me. WOW! And because it allowed my anus to grip on the Aneros quite well, I got some really new sensations from the session. It was like I could feel every little movement of the Aneros because of a good anal grip. Every little anal contractions, even the slightest, produced a movement in the Aneros, which was amazing feeling. And the sensation on my inner anal ring muscles as the Progasm slid out of me as I relaxed was exquisite. The best explanation I can give of how using this lube is different than the shea butter I've been using, is that it is like the difference in feeling between using a condom during sex and not. I thought that maybe I wasn't getting enough lubrication because the Progasm insertion was a lot more challenging. But upon removal of the Aneros and feeling myself, I was very well lubed. It's just a different and lighter consistency than shea butter lube. Less grease like. And this morning I have absolutely no soreness in my anus or prostate.

I wouldn't recommend this lube for novice anal play users. As you have to really understand how to relax to allow the use of this and enjoy it. But since I've been at this for so long, it wasn't an issue for me. One of the other things I liked is that because it is water based, it dries upon long enough air contact, so I didn't have the need to wash my hands after fingering my anus, I could just continue my session, and my fingers dried fairly quickly. I pre-lubed by injecting 4mm in me. But I think it got absorbed fairly quickly, as there was hardly anything that came out sitting on the toilet after the session. So next time I will use more. This was for about an hour of Aneros use. So it may not be good for multiple hour sessions without re-lubing again. But that is speculation on my part. Also, I think that this lube would benefit from being in a plastic squeeze bottle to dispense, which I am going to try. As it is really difficult to spoon some out. It's so slippery that it slips off the spoon! And pouring some out over the sink to fill the syringe ended up dumping way more than was needed, thus wasting it. Give it a try and see what you think. :)

    Love_is

P.S. - On a funny note, while lubing up my Progasm, I was tilting the jar it was in to try and get as much lube coverage as possible, I tilted too far and spilled a bunch of this lube thankfully onto the towel I had layed out onto my bed. But cleaning it up was like having to clean a big puddle of ten or twelve ejaculations! It's consistency is irregular/clumpy and slippery, so it has that same cum feelings! I don't recommend you try this though. LOL
  • Love Is,
Its great to hear about your experience with it. I like your idea of a squirt bottle (maybe an old lube bottle?). I use a small bulb syringe to lube my anus, and then what's leftover in the bulb I put on the toy. It works well for me, no mess. I leave a washcloth or handkerchief next to me to place the bulb on when I am done, and to wipe my hands if I have excess lube on them.

So, I have an updated recipe. I just made a batch, erring on the side of too little flax this time and it came out great. here's what I did. I used 2 Tbs of organic golden flax (brown flax works just as well) in one cup of filtered water, and I let it simmer for 2-3 more minutes before straining the seeds out. I recovered half a cup of finished lubricant that seems thick enough for my purposes.

I think before I was actually using closer to a quarter cup of flax (4 Tbs) per cup of water instead of half a cup as I had initially thought, so its no wonder the batch you tried, Love Is, came out so weird. Again I apologize for that extra hassle.

Thanks for your review and insights. I am definitely a novice to the aneros, but I would say that I feel more movement and sensation with this flax lube than with any of the other oils I've used (though I haven't used Shae Butter). I love all the exploring and experimenting and, reading about other people's experiences. Its all so eye opening!

    How about a pumper bottle?

Regarding Linseed oil, I would think not. Works great for varnishing wood, but not that kind. The lumber kind.

    Read the MSDS:

  • Hi Tomasheen,
Linseed is the same plant as flax, so if you are talking about extracting the mucilage from it then the answer is of course, yes, you can use Linseed. I think you could also use organic chia seed in the same way as it has a high mucilage content as well (I don't know if that is any more available in Great Britian).

In case you were referring to the oil, I don't know what the difference is between what what we call linseed oil, which is used for varnishing wood, and flax oil which is an edible oil and quite healthy for you. I don't think Flax oil would hurt you, though it might not have the desired glide, thickness, or staying power as other oils.

And I want to be very clear that the mucilage extracted by boiling the flax is NOT flax oil (which is extracted when the seed is crushed and pressed under high pressure). I hope that answered your question.

    take care
  • PS. and, of course, as Badger said, don't use the wood varnish as lube :) Cheers

    Hello little brother, :)

Agreed. I also like to hear about different peoples experiences. This is a great forum for sharing such a delicate topic that probably would otherwise not get discussed in person. :D

Yeah, an old sex lube bottle would work. I opted to buy a small plastic squeeze bottle from the bulk food section of my local health food store that would normally be used for bulk liquid soaps. Pouring it in was a trip. This lube is weird, it wants to stay all together in one mass. So as I started pouring it into the bottle I tilted back the jar quite a bit so as not to spill any over the sides, yet the lube kept right on going into the bottle until it was all in. LOL

Thank you for your updated recipe. I will give that a try next time. It makes sense being that it is less flax and more water than what I tried initially. No worries about passing along incorrect measurements. I considered it an experiment, so I kept an open mind.

and I let it simmer for 2-3 more minutes before straining the seeds out.

Are you saying that you simmer it for 2-3 more minutes on top of the initial 5 minutes? Or just 2-3 minutes in total cook time? Also, what are you using to strain the seeds out? And how do you do it? I also realized this morning that it would have made more sense for me to mount my small fine mesh strainer over a large bowl so I could fill the strainer without having to worry about lube going over the sides of the jar that I strained into the first time.

    -------
    Hello Tomasheen, :)

The general rule of thumb for natural lubes is... If it is safe to eat it, it's likely safe to use as an anal lube. I pretty sure you do not want to eat linseed oil. LOL

    Love_is
  • Hi Love is,
You're right, that wasn't very clear how I wrote it. I meant that with fewer flax seeds one should let them simmer for 2-3 additional minutes for a total simmer time of 7-8 minutes. You should be able to tell when the consistency starts to get the point you want it at.

I do always strain the goop into a bowl before pouring it into whatever storage bottle I'm using, just because it can tend to get everywhere. For straining I use a regular kitchen strainer (Not a colander)- like what you might use to strain pulp from orange juice. Some are smaller, with a 3 inch screened straining bowl. They work alright, but I prefer using a larger one that can catch all of the seeds and goop at once.

I'm going to check for shea butter next time I go out to the health food store, which may be today.

    take care,
    noah

Many thanks for this recipe little brother. I'll try it as soon as I can get hold of some flax seeds. Re shelf life, try a tiny bit (pinch?) of vitamin C powder in with it. Vit C is used as a natural preservative and, obviously, is perfectly safe. Make sure it's the plain powder unless you don't mind orange or blackcurrant flavoured lube ;)

I used this when I cooked up a batch of corn starch to try as lube, the experiment wasn't that successful because after 24 hrs the goo set almost solid. The vit C kept it sweet unrefrigerated until I binned it 3 weeks later...

    Have fun,

Good idea Old Wolf! I wonder if a bit of fresh squeezed lemon juice could have the same effect? As it is just the citric acid that is the preservative if I remember correctly. What do you think?

    Love_is
  • Hi Old Wolf,
Is citric acid going to be alright in the rectum? I thought that environment was best kept at a slightly alkaline level. I guess you're talking about adding very little, though, so it might not affect the pH too much.

I look forward to hearing how it goes for you.

    Hello again people, :)

While I'm liking this new lube while it is still wet. I find it to dry out fairly quickly. And the pre-lube to be absorbed in my rectum pretty quickly, even with having used a whole syringe full of it. It's nice that it doesn't dry out sticky. But it is inconvenient to have to keep interrupting the session to reapply lube. And there is a tendency for anal and prostate soreness when accidently I let it go too long being dry. I'm thinking this lube would be better suited for vaginal penetration. But there could potentially be drying out problems there also. I guess I'm going to stick with shea butter as anal lube for now.

    Little Brother and all,

I have to say that I am REALLY impressed with this lube. It has to be one of the slipperiest substances that I've ever encountered and the consistency is absolutely amazing! It's the closest thing to precum or vaginal lubrication that I've ever seen, (which is frankly a huge turn on for me.) The best part about this substance is that it really seems like an organic product, and by organic I mean to say...derived from living matter. From the moment that I felt this on my skin, it was natural to me, almost as if my body had produced it! This is sexy stuff! It has very little aroma to it and what there is seems grain-like.....absolutely no chemical smell, again another big bonus.

How did it perform with the Aneros? Marvelously! I road tested it for over 2 hours with 4 devices from my arse-anal, (large and small) and I was pretty impressed with how responsive everything was. I should add there was absolutely no irritation or "urge to purge" produced by this substance. Again, it just seemed natural to me.

It was ridiculously easy to prepare. I used the 2 tablespoons Flax seeds in 1 cup of water, simmered for 7 minutes recipe. I ended up making a second batch as well which provided me with a total of 4 fluid ounces of lube. Btw, this must be the cheapest lube on the planet. I haven't done the math, but the bag of Flax seeds that I bought was about $3.00. I'm going to guess that it will make about 60 fl ozs. of lube.

On the down side, as Love_is noted, it does have a tendency to dry out when exposed to air. But frankly, I didn't find it much different than any other water based lube in that regard. What I did notice is that it was easily reconstituted with the addition of water. To illustrate this point, I'll tell you that I left the strainer that I used to prepare the lube in the sink over night. When I ran water over it in the morning the lube that was clinging to it was just as slick as it had been 8 hours earlier! By comparison glycerin based preparations tend to breakdown as they dry out.

In my session I never had the need to add water to it however. I started with about 10 ml. as a prelube. This created a nice reservoir internally which I added to frequently with the introduction of my various Aneros models which I copiously lubricated.

Something to be aware of however is that this lube is a bit tricky to handle. Unlike commercially prepared products that are homogeneous, this natural product has a more heterogeneous consistency....almost like egg (white) albumen. So it tends to flow in a mass.

In conclusion I will say that this Flax Seed lube is a terrific choice for someone who wants a totally natural water-based product. If oil is your thing, the natural jelly recipe is the way to go.

    Guys,

I've also done some preliminary trials with 'little brother' s 'FlaxLube' and can confirm everything reported by 'BF Mayfield'. It is an intriguing substance, very viscous, slippery and, yes, like vaginal lubrication or semen/precum. It does definitely have a sexy feel to it! I tried it today as well. I put some into a small plastic squeeze bottle, one with a flip up nozzle. I found that dispensing this material is problematic as it is so cohesive that if you try to squeeze some out, without cutting it off, it gets sucked right back into the container when you release the squeeze pressure. This stuff is slippery but a little messy to work with, as it sticks to almost anything but will readily flow due to gravity. One needs to be careful as well when applying it to the massager’s surface, it tends to rapidly run off, so you need to use your fingers to catch it and smear it over the surface. It is actually one of the slipperiest lubes I’ve encountered. The major drawback, as both 'BF Mayfield' & 'Love_is' reported, this lube does dry out fairly rapidly when exposed to air. I think the only place this is really a problem is right at the anus opening itself as this area is easily irritated by dry abrasive contact. I found coating this area with 'Natural Jelly' after pre-lubing was a satisfactory work-around to the drying problem.

As a traditional masturbatory lubricant this stuff is wonderful in its silkiness and natural feel, but again the air drying factor is a deterrent. As long as you have a water spritzer handy it is a pleasure to use. I don't have a Fleshlight, but I bet this lubrication would feel remarkably realistic when used in combination with that device.

The formula is simplicity itself, easy to cook up and quite inexpensive, both important attributes for us all. It is indeed very natural acting and feeling. Preparation is the simplest part, if you can boil water you can make this lube! 'Virg' ,if you're still around, this may be the natural, safe lube you were looking for. While I will keep using the 'Natural Jelly' formula for the external anal opening, I think I may be switching to this new lube for most of the application.

I made my first batch of this last night and would agree that is does act just like cum and is so slippery. worked fine in my lube injector. I used probably three times as much as I would have if I were using natural lube and had no leakage or after session leftovers to clean off. It must be easily absorbed into the rectum. being just flaxseed and water, I don't see how that could be a problem and perhaps it could act as if taking a supplement.
I tried using this lube on my nipples during the session but found that it does dry out too quickly for that purpose and left a bit of a film on my chest as it dried out.
I had a hard time screening the lube but think I may have used either too much seed or not enough water. I placed the mixture into a kitchen seive and absolutly nothing came through. I ended up putting the batch into a dishcloth and twisting it into a ball to force the lube through. I did manage to make quite a mess with the whole process but I think the second batch will work out better.

For those of us that are "kitchen challenged", I am wondering if this product or other flax seed oil supplements would do a similar lubricating job.?? I realize that the fax seed is crushed etc. but if properly filtered, would it not be a more consistent product? And whole bunch easier to explain to "Auntie" when she is searching the fridge for coffee creamer. I also noticed the warning under Additional information about it's blood thinning properties. Am I assuming correctly that would hold true of the flax seed and water lube in this thread?

Bear in mind that this is not Flax Seed oil that we're making here, it is really mucilage. In so far as anybody coming across a bag of this goes, tell them that you're adding it to your oatmeal to get your Omega-3's! In addition to that people toss them on salads...it's a food stuff.

Speaking of oatmeal, if you can make IT you can prepare this, it's child's play. Again, 2 tablespoons Flax seeds in 1 cup of water, simmered for 7 minutes. If you want to make more...double that. The different part here is that you have to strain it at the end. I did this over a large measuring cup (this make it easier to transfer to a bottle). You'll find that you need to agitate it a bit with your hand as well. (yep, I got my hand gooey). One thing to bear in mind however, is that this is a totally natural product. There are no preservatives in this. Consequently you need to refrigerate the unused portion or make fresh lube every time. You're probably be okay keeping it in a drawer for a couple of days, but no more. On using crushed seeds vs. whole ones, I'm not sure how this would have any bearing on the consistency of the mucilage (after all crushed or whole, you're straining them away, separating them from the liquid).

    BF Mayfield
  • On some other blogs talking about the flax seed lube, it sounds like crushing the seed isn't a good idea. Since we are just getting the mucilage, there is no/little flax oil in the final product, so it should be safe for condoms. If you crushed open the seed, you'd be more likely to get some of the oil out. So says the magic internet of truth..... (waving magic "take it with a grain of salt" wand around).

[QUOTE=SomaExplorer;87728]On some other blogs talking about the flax seed lube, it sounds like crushing the seed isn't a good idea. Since we are just getting the mucilage, there is no/little flax oil in the final product, so it should be safe for condoms. If you crushed open the seed, you'd be more likely to get some of the oil out. So says the magic internet of truth..... (waving magic "take it with a grain of salt" wand around).

Well, it's a thought! In any event I'm staying with the whole seeds. They're readily available, in fact many supermarkets carry them now. I like how they taste as well...yep, I've been eating them too!

Little brother - thank you for posting the flaxseed lube recipe. Looking forward to trying it out. I've been researching natural lube alternatives so always glad to hear about this topic.

I very sensitive to glycerin - even externally and am also allergic to soy - vita E is almost always derived from as that's the cheapest source. That rules out just about everything on the market.

yesyesyes.org makes a great oil based lube which is similar to the Natural Jelly recipe I've read about on here - but even it has vita E from soy in it, but the consistency and viscosity has to be very similar to what I've read described in the various threads. I've not found edible beeswax locally yet to try my own recipe.

I've just ordered a new water based lube to try out called WaterSlide. There's also one called Hydra but haven't found the full ingredient list for that one yet. WaterSlide has 3 ingredients - water and 2 natural seaweed plants.

Have been reading more of the comments regarding shea butter. I have but haven't managed to get the right consistency to have much fun. Perhaps once the WaterSlide arrives I'll try some combo experimentation.

    cheers

pacnw, have you tried Slippery Stuff Gel? It's a great lube, and is anal-safe. Check out my other posts on lube.

Badger, I have tried in the past, however discontinued as it contains parabens. I have thyroid/adrenal issues, so probably what makes me esp. sensitive too. =( ForPlay gel had been my fav for a long time but had to discontinue as well. I liked it better than Probe Thick as it wasn't stringy and I thought offered more viscosity; and seemed to last longer.

    pacnw,

Please make sure to post on the WaterSlide once you've given it a good ride. I'm pretty happy with this Flax Seed lube these days, but it would be nice to have a natural commercially prepared alternative on those days when I'm too lazy to make to the kitchen.

Hey Mayfield, re: new WaterSlide lube....it certainly is slippery....like water. I've only given it a short spin with the Helix. It seemed okay, but I think a shooter would probably have helped and I generally tend not to utilize. I'm not sure it would be thick enough or stay in place well enough for larger Aneros.

I've not had opportunity to play or experiment more; but that's my first brush.
  • I've had good results heating unrefined shea butter and mixing it with sweet almond oil. Toss in the freezer for a few minutes to thicken while still homogeneous. After applying to aneros and butt, add a little water-based lube and I'm more than ready to go. I can only imagine using it on polished units!

Thanks so much for this recipe, little brother! I found this thread from one about the "urge to purge" that the glycerin lube gives many of us. I find that I prefer this lube to the store-bought stuff because of its increased viscosity. It has that "just right" feeling. I have had my best experiences using this natural lube. Thanks again!

Hey Little Brother, thanks for the recipe and idea of the flax.

I've made a few batches going through the trial and error process, and all i have to say is WOW!

The quality and consistency reminds me of ProbeThick&Rich, but needless to say its all natural.

Best part too is when it kinda gels up, can coat the aneros fully.

Thanks once again for the greatest idea :)

I've been experimenting with altering the recipe a bit. As the seeds are boiling, small amounts of liquid can be incorporated into the mucilage as it separates by rapidly stirring it into the mixture. I've found a few drops of olive oil incorporated into the mix makes things more slippery without changing the viscosity of the product.

Looking up mucilage on Wikipedia gives a large variety of plants (flax seed included) that have high mucilage content. I wonder if any of them would work as well or better? The most interesting on the list is chia seeds (yes as in the Chia Pet :)).

I'm in need of some help with this, as i've tried some different idea's, but whats the best way to strain the flax from the water???

I have a metal strainer , but i guess the holes aren't quite big enough to allow enough of the coating through, its gets all think and then wont come through the strainer.

So any help on this matter is appreciated.

I had an issue with straining it as well. I ended up puting it into a cloth( I think I used an old t shirt) as squezing it into a ball.
it was messy but it worked

Thanks for the idea. I was actually also thinking of that idea with cheese cloth, but was thinking maybe too thick.

This may sound like some desperate measures, but i even had the idea and went out and got some Window screening.
So combining your idea of rolling up into a ball in that material may just do the trick :)

    Well let ya know.

    Hello Schitz, :)

As I recall when I tried this lube recipe, I initially like yourself tried my metal strainer with small holes that is used for ground tea straining and experienced the same thing of it clogging. My solution was to use my large metal strainer that has larger holes and manually remove the few flax seeds that made it through into the filtered lube.

    Hey,
thanks for the input. I actually have been trying that too, I even got a plastic strainer hoping that the materials would counter balance each other
    so wouldnt stick...

Speaking of which i just had a thought, could spray the metal strainer with PAM so it wouldnt stick :)

But seriously, its just sometimes it seems that theres alot of seeds that come through or bunched all together,
but i guess as they say, no pain no gain... cause its certainly worth the effort for this lube.

  • Ok, looks like we got that sorted and we all know how to make flax seed lube. I don't want to hijack your thread little brother but I have a question for all the lube chefs while they're all still hanging about.
Has anyone heard of Nuru Massage and specifically the gel that's used? It's made from Japanese Nori seaweed It is tasteless and odourless and Its completely harmless to eat so I would assume it's ok in your arse then? The massage itself looks incredibly sexy as well. Just search "nuru massage" on youporn etc. Make for some great pegging action eh Love_is?
Anyway if anyone knows how to make it or what the basic ingredients are please don't be bashful.
    Thanks.

    Is this it?
    1. Mix 2 tsp. of sodium alginate with 2 cups of water in a glass saucepan. Stir with a sanitized spoon.
    2. Heat the ingredients over low heat, stirring constantly until the sodium alginate is completely dissolved.
    3. Remove from heat and cover with plastic wrap to hold out any contaminants that may come into contact with the lubricant. Allow the liquid to cool.

Sodium alginate is made from brown algae, not exactly nori seaweed.

Well, Sky Walker, kelp (a type of seaweed) is in the list of high-mucilage plants. Perhaps the mechanism is similar to the flax seed technique. I don't know -- I'm no botanist. Anyway, as to your recipie, I would be wary of using an ingredient that isn't purely natural. I'm not really sure how the sodium will change the product. It might have a dehydrating or an irritating effect on the bowel tissue. Again, this is just speculation. Better safe than sorry with the backdoor though.
  • Good point a_user, I'm heading for the Japanese grocery on Monday to ask some carefully crafted questions.

I think "powdered laver" might be a good start.

I'd agree with 'carefully crafted questions"

Some of the gums used in salad dressing or as additives in machine processing of foodstuffs are 'meshed' much as the flaxseed gel process discussed in this thread. At around at 200-mesh particle size they combine with water to form lubricants and gel-type thickeners.

Many of the commercial gums and alginates were originally crafted from safe natural sources but the chemists have found ways to increase yields and lower costs by using other vegetable sources. (ex: Kelco started by using kelp seaweed to produce Xanthan gum, for salad dressing. Now it's crafted from various grains.) The issue is that some of the bulk, commercial grade Xanthan Gum now contains a carry-over of chemistry from the source vegetable, grass, algae, etc. Trick is to avoid bulk gums and alginates produced for Halliburton's drilling mud... gums and alginates that don't contain a vegetable source that might produce or trigger allergies -- think glutens.

Google for Xanthan Gum .... plenty of wikipedia notes and shopping sources
Medicinal Guar Gum might be a good one to investigate: -- Guar gum - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia --

Keep us posted on what you find out Sky_Walker. I'd be curious if this Nuru seaweed lube would have less issue with drying than the flax seed lube does.

  • First up, apologies again Little brother for hijacking your thread.
    Hi Love_is,
Well I'm not really sure if I want to use it internally, the KY jelly works fine for me, I actually want a Nuru Massage, Just can't seem to find the Nuru gel here in Australia. Well I did find SOME but it comes with an attractive woman at $250 an hour, she tells me she imports her own in bulk and she's not sharing! Not really interested in importing it myself in 250ml bottles as it seems you go through the stuff by the litre. I would love to take up her offer, but I don't think my wife would be too overjoyed with the prospect, then it was suggested I should bring her along too, couples massages can be so much fun!
Anyway, not wanting to destroy my marriage I'm still on the hunt for the basic obtainable ingredients. I've stumbled across something called Agar Agar, a seaweed based substitute for gelatine. I don't want it to set like jelly so I guess I'll experiment with the amount of water I use.

Here is the recipe for flavoured jelly:
place 10g agar agar flakes in a saucepan with 300ml cold water and leave to soak for 15 minutes. Next, bring the water to boil and simmer until the flakes have dissolved before stirring in 300ml of fresh juice. Lastly, pour the liquid into the desired mould and then leave to cool and set before serving chilled.

My starting point would be 10g of agar agar with 1 litre of water. and no fresh juice.

Anybody heard of or used this stuff?

    Sky.

PS still haven't made it to the Japanese grocer yet.

BTW this sort of stuff doesn't really help me, it's interesting, but I'm no chemist
    From wiki
"Agar consists of a mixture of agarose and agaropectin. Agarose is a linear polymer, made up of the repeating monomeric unit of agarobiose. Agarobiose is a disaccharide made up of D-galactose and 3,6-anhydro-L-galactopyranose. Its major differences from carrageenans are the presence of L-3,6-anhydro-α-galactopyranose rather than D-3,6-anhydro-α-galactopyranose units and the lack of sulfate groups. Agaropectin is a heterogeneous mixture of smaller molecules that occur in lesser amounts. Their structures are similar but slightly branched and sulfated, and they may have methyl and pyruvic acid ketal substituents. They gel poorly and may be simply removed from the excellent gelling agarose molecules by using their charge. The quality of agar is improved by toe treatment that converts of any L-galactose-6-sulfate to 3,6-anhydro-L-galactose.
The gel network of agarose contains double helices formed from left-handed threefold helices. These double helices are stabilized by the presence of water molecules bound inside the double helical cavity [508]. Exterior hydroxyl groups allow aggregation of up to 10,000 of these helices to form suprafibers"

Interesting post Sky_Walker. It didn't seem like much of a massage more than just slimy, slippery sex! LOL

It appears that you can buy this nuru gel pre-made, but it is quite expensive. So supposedly this stuff is made from one of the edible nuri seaweed plants. I wonder though if it has to be fresh as opposed to dried? If so, that maybe a problem to locate the proper ingredients so far away from Japan if that is the case. I'd be curious how this natural lube performs for Aneros sessions. Anyone curious enough to either make some or buy some and try it?

    Hello Jjaneros, :)

I had high hopes for the Sylk kiwi natural being another natural alternative until I found the ingredients includes glycerin.
Sylk - extract of the Kiwifruit vine, packed full of vitamins, anti-oxidants and fibre.

Although I think the spirit of this thread is to be able to inexpensively make your own natural lube.
